How Sleep Impacts Employee Productivity And Your Bottom Line

Have you noticed your employees pulling all-nighters in hopes of checking more items off their to-do list? Don’t encourage it! Not only does skimping on sleep have a negative impact on your employees’ health, it can reduce their productivity at work, too—and cost your company some serious cash.

A lack of sleep can lead to some pretty major workplace consequences, like becoming slower at work tasks, staying home sick for more days, and even performing as if you were under the influence. Not to mention, it can cost your company a pretty penny—$2,280 per employee to be exact. That’s $63.2 billion per year nationally.

Encouraging your employees to aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night can help reduce their risk of some serious chronic conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and more. For example, short sleep duration (<7 hours of sleep per night) and poor sleep quality are associated with cardiovascular morbidity and metabolic disorders such as glucose intolerance, which may lead to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.

Empower your employees to make sleep a priority and help them recognize when their body needs to rest and recharge. They’ll feel more energized at work and ready to take on the day ahead.
